The Adirondack Park Agency was established in 1971 by NY State Legislature to develop long-range land use plans for both public and private lands within the Park. Visit them at: www.apa.state.ny.us
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is charged with the stewardship of the publicly owned Forest Preserve. The DEC also has regulatory responsibility for point-source pollution control, timber management practices guidance, wildlife management, the Adirondack Sign Law, mining activities, etc. The DEC is divided up into nine regions throughout the state.
